It seems that Michael Jackson’s shock early death yesterday is the biggest story on mainstream media this morning eclipsing problems in Iran, the BBC being attacked now for far less dubious expense claims than the MP’s, Wimbledon and of course the Glastonbury Festival’s weather forecast!
It’s particularly interesting to see the media piggy back what appears to be (by large consensus) genuine grief from his music loving public. It kind of smacks of hypocrisy a little to GYEO as Jackson’s later years have been vilified by the tabloids in particular with Michael Jackson dubbed ‘Wacko Jacko’ for many of his later years. We’ve all joined the pack at times…
GYEO say, for today at least, forget the more tawdry claims about Jackson’s private life - the plastic surgery, befriending monkey’s and a general meandering to part-madness and go listen to Off The Wall!
It’s a got a few killer tracks, and jacko knew how to knock out a good disco funk track in them days, a few dodgy ballads admittedly - a reflection of a time when pop music had more substance than it does today, when the Industry wasn’t full of Cowell-esque music BUSINESS people looking to make money first and think about music second…OK perhaps a little romantic but you know what we mean!
Whatever your thoughts on Jackson in his later years, and we can genuinely see both sides of opinion, his music from The Jacksons era and even more so some tracks around the time of his ultimate offering to pop music lovers - Off The Wall - should not be tainted by what happened next.
Of course many of you will be extremely familiar with the album - but when did you last listen to Off the Wall?
Go do so today….enjoy and remember fondly without our inevitable 21st Century cynicism that seems so prevalent in many…Good Times and Boogie!
RIP Michael Jackson
