P2P File Sharing Rants!

Well it’s been an interesting week in the ever-lasting saga that is the way we consume music these days…

Firstly reaction to Peter Mandelson and the fact he thought he’d score some brownie points by announcing that he’d push powers to cut off persistent illegal file sharers apparently “thinking has evolved”…over 10 years and he calls this evolution. Pull the plug out!!! That’ll stop these pesky kids…haha…you’re actually MAD!

Then the FAC (Featured Artists Coalition) knocking Mandelson’s disconnection plans into touch, saying although they don’t condone file sharing (they’re so scared of people power and want to act all cool and that) they don’t want to infringe one’s civil liberties…get a spine or make some clear suggestions to solve things then!

They say they don’t mind people sampling music - it’s just the people that download for commerical gain?!

1. Many people will now no longer pay for music that they CAN afford simply because it is perceived to be FREE. Sorry but it’s true.

2. Clever developers can create robot user communities to create the impression that it’s a group of people just “sampling” music and then generate revenue on adverts as this would attract real human “samplers” and create page impressions, therefore advertising and affiliate revenue… and financial gain.

It’s not an easy problem to solve is it?

A certain Ms.Lily Allen has the balls to say what she thinks (via her now deleted blog) but not the accurate evaluation of the FAC’s position to actually realise that the FAC do not condone file sharing!

They just want people to stop… nicely, please. They don’t think that the measures the Government suggest are the right approach. You can’t ‘criminalise’ people for taking music for free - unless it’s a CD in a shop.

Confused? We think everybody is to some extent.

Lily Allen has claimed to be quitting the music industry due to the back-lash received by all these ‘cool’ artists that believe that music is OK to be let loose for everyone to consume for free, that’s probably because shit artists won’t get their music distributed any other way.

The argument that you can get money back on live and on merchandise is logical BUT only for a small percentage of artists…BOOM!! The vast majority of artists (that think they can MAKE IT) will make music to give away for free and no one will give a fuck.

Hmmm…DRM (digital rights management) might be re-surfacing some time soon at this rate?!
